Notes

Been to Scotland lately? If you are among the lucky few to say yes, we hope you visited one of our Society venues! August is an inspiring time to see bonnie Scotland’s multitude of beautiful landscapes and, whether you have been recently or never at all, it’s always a worthwhile endeavor for the Scotch whisky lover to taste through different regions. The Perfect Road Trip highlights four regions through four unique casks.

After landing in Edinburgh or Glasgow, rent a car and head north to the central Speyside with Cask 2.102 Eternal sunshine. The floral and refreshing profile is a perfect start to the liquid journey and reflects the lush countryside where distillery #2 resides. Continuing north, head along the Firths of Moray, Cromarty and Dornoch for a taste of Cask 26.121 A real ‘pick-me-up’. This northern Highland dram has a textured mouth feel of caramelized orchard fruit, cabinet spice and sea spray that will enliven the senses.

Travel further north still to the mainland’s end and catch a ferry to the Orkney Islands. Here you may get an excellent dose of the sea with Cask 4.231 Harbour-side takeaway. Aromas and flavours of heather and honey mingle with maritime and chocolate accents for a delightfully complex dram. Get a good night’s rest as our next leg takes us south across the heart of the Highlands, Western Highlands and eventually to the port of Kennecraig… you’re Islay bound!

Upon arriving at Port Askaig by ferry, the Isle of Jura is right across the sound and just up the road is our last stop - Cask 10.122 Skimming pebbles at the beach. This lightly peated whisky combines the salt of the sound with a whisp of smoke, mineral, shellfish and flowers – an interesting juxtaposition to the Orkney dram and a perfect ending to this fantastic journey.
