The nose gave us spring meadows and gorse flowers, lemon tart, pear and honey tart, vanilla yoghurt, marshmallows, Tunnock’s snowballs and toffee popcorn – quite a range. The palate was beautifully sweet – sugared almonds, Caramac bar, marzipan, Cornish strawberry jam cream tea and crème Anglaise made with Madagascar vanilla pods. Only the gentlest of wood haunted the finish – like strawberry Mivvi ice-lolly sticks. The reduced nose had toffee, marrons glacés, Battenberg cake and butterscotch, with whipped cream on baked apples. The palate now had dried coconut, sugared buns, candy peanuts and walnut whips – then a very mild, dry spice finish. Really attractive.
