Cask No. 93.112

Sweet and grubby

Campbeltown

Whatever it sounds like, the nose was actually very attractive – we identified puff candy, maple syrup, honey and rum and raisin – but also oak shavings, salted liquorice and something of a trawler’s engine room. The palate achieved a fine balance of deep, sweet and acceptably grubby – salted caramel fudge, clover honey, muscovado on pear, oily rags and mussels cooked with chilli. The reduced nose produced peat-smoke, Baklava, burnt hazelnuts, tar, Bunsen burner tubes and an apothecary’s shop. On the palate, smoked fish and chimney soot were deliciously complimented by the sweetness of Liquorice Allsorts, caramelised sugar and grilled prawn shells.

Cask: Refill hogshead
Age: 14 years
Date distilled: February 2004
Alcohol: 53.7%
USA allocation: 90 bottles
