The initial nose seemed green and grassy with laurel shrubbery, developing into mint chews and pan drops before eventually, exotic notes of sandalwood and mango emerged. The smooth, sweet palate offered toffee and maple syrup, while more complex flavours fuelled our somewhat animated discussion - baked apple, vanilla, mocha, toasted almond, some even found the finish reminiscent of Big Red gum. The reduced nose had more vanilla, less greenery and additional notes of lavender, dark honey and Cafe Noir biscuits. The palate now seemed sweeter, easier and fruitier, with caramel wafers and dried fruits; the lip-smacking finish now also finding liquorice, nutmeg and humbugs.
