This is an aroma that seems to come out of the distant past. Polished hardwoods, sandpaper, old dressers, a warm antique shop, lashings of beeswax, face cream, talcum powder, tiger balm, coconut oil and a tear-inducing abundance of wax that harks back to this distillery’s glory days of the 1960s. Be careful with water, just a splotch unveils precious hardwood resins, soft earthiness, dried mint and an oily lighter fluid note. The palate is a glorious slick of spiced waxes, exotic hardwoods, quince jelly, aged ointments and expensive marzipan. With reduction it gains a chalky, mineralic edge with pineapple, white jelly beans and gorse flower. A superb and often moving wee blast from the past.
