The nose starts off fruity – blackcurrant, bramble, stewed plums and baked apples – then we discover brown sugar and puff candy, raisins, sultanas and figs. The palate, warm as a welcoming hug, combines treacle tart, Eccles cakes and dates with Victory V’s, hot cross buns and curry spice. The reduced nose encompasses egg custard tart, cassis, thick cut marmalade and a half empty treacle tin. The palate now has apricot jam, Christmas cake, crème caramel, vanilla slices and nutty sherry, finishing with dry spices, liquorice root and oak. After 15 years in ex-bourbon wood we transferred this into a first-fill Oloroso hogshead.
