Difficult to categorise this – a big presence yet easy-drinking, plenty of juicy fruitiness and oak-derived spice (not much vanilla). On the nose we got dried pineapple, raspberry sauce and marmalade, candle wax, pink peppercorns, spiced Chai and incense. The bittersweet palate had elderflower and chocolate, grapefruit, pomegranate and strawberry – the finish evoked Oddfellows sweets – clove, ginger and especially cinnamon. Water brought an ‘after the rain’ vibrancy, pressed flowers, nectarines, mango and Edinburgh rock to the nose, while the palate balanced chocolate, meringues and marshmallows with a cranberry, lime and quince zing, floral notes, apple pie with cinnamon and chilli chocolate.
