It opens with big, earthy hessian notes. Mint julep, bitter chocolate, antique furniture polish, walnut oil, prunes and fruit loaf and all mentioned initially. Then cherry calpol, bay leaf, yellow sultanas, honeycomb and brown muscovado sugar. A little water brings herbal liqueurs, marmalade, precious hardwood resins, mineral oil, strawberry wine, praline and a posh Manhattan cocktail. The list of dark fruit jams is too extensive to list here. On the palate we found aged rhum agricole, prune juice, almond croissant paste, fig jam, various ointments and aged calvados with pear liqueurs and dried tarragon. A little water and out came pomegranate molasses, banana liqueur, more old rum and spiced fruit chutneys. Previously in bourbon hogshead for 13 years before transfer to first fill PX hogshead.
