The nose is redolent of the 1960s; tropical fruit juices in quivering jelly form - rosewater, Turkish delight, smoked toffee apples, jasmine tea and piles of cinnamon and aniseed balls. Things like red liquorice, ointments, sheep wool and faded bonfire embers. Water offers a sooty, herbal, marc de gewurztraminer element. Hints of aged muscat, almost an old Irish pure pot still in style. Some fruit chutney and smoked paprika add a smooth jazz background tone. In the mouth the texture is viscous and there are immediately funky notes of ruby port, smoked goat cheese, balsamic onions, juniper, roast game meats, aged pinot noir, camphor, passion fruit cordial, heather ales and Monster Munch. With water we find petrichor, black pepper, red fruit jams, lime cordial, hazelnut cake, purple wine gums and hessian sack cloth. Barmy stuff! Matured in a bourbon hogshead for 14 years before being transferred to a shaved, toasted and re-charred first-fill barrique.
