‘Tasty as hell’

Highland, Northern

We found the nose complex and alluring – cranberries, redcurrants, strawberries and rhubarb rock; apricot jam and Neapolitan ice-cream; orange muscat and Zinfandel rosé. The chewy, substantial palate gave us pomegranate syrup, orange, apple, blackcurrant and dried apricot, with a warming pink peppercorn and moist gingerbread finish. The reduced nose took us to an old-fashioned ice-cream parlour – toasted coconut, mango sorbet, monkey’s blood, etc. The palate now – ‘tasty as hell’ – rhubarb crumble, Amarena cherries, chocolate mousse and strawberry creams; port wine, and cinnamon sticks on the finish. After 10 years in ex-bourbon wood we transferred this into a first-fill red wine barrique.
